New coalition will unite families, schools, and local organizations to prevent youth substance use and create healthier futures for Payette County kids.
Payette, Idaho – Insight Matters Inc. is proud to announce that St. Luke’s Health System has awarded a $5,000 Community Health Improvement Fund (CHIF) grant to support the launch of 1P Kids Succeed, Payette County’s new Drug-Free Coalition. This initiative will bring together parents, schools, community leaders, and organizations to address youth mental health and prevent substance misuse.
The 1P Kids Succeed Coalition has chosen to be a hybrid coalition that focuses on both upstream drug prevention and youth mental health. Its mission is to support Payette County youth by building resilience, strengthening mental health, and preventing substance use through community collaboration and action.
“At Insight Matters, we work every day with youth, parents, and schools to build the skills and knowledge they need to make healthy choices, whether that means managing stress, avoiding substance use, or creating a safe environment at home,” said Sarah Gross, Executive Director of Insight Matters Inc. “But strong homes and schools are only part of the picture. Protecting youth from the risks of drugs, harmful advertising, and online influences takes an entire community working together. That is why we saw the need for a coalition and stepped forward to bring partners together. With St. Luke’s support, we now have the capacity to start building that network. The time to act is now. Our kids are exposed to marijuana advertising just across the border in Ontario, Oregon, and we know they are at risk. Together, we can change the environment they are growing up in.”
In the coming months, the coalition will host its first in-person kickoff meeting in June 2025, launch a county-wide survey to better understand youth access to substances, and begin meeting one-on-one with community members and elected officials. Coalition members will also be available to provide presentations on youth mental health and substance use prevention to schools, organizations, and civic groups.
The coalition is starting with simple, practical goals that everyone in the community can rally around:
Bringing people together to collaborate on solutions for youth.
Preventing young people from starting to use nicotine, marijuana, or alcohol.
Giving families more tools and resources to build resilience and support mental health.
Creating positive opportunities for youth to connect, grow, and lead in their community.
This grant is part of St. Luke’s Community Health Improvement Fund, which invests in nonprofit organizations that address significant health needs identified through St. Luke’s Community Health Needs Assessment. In 2025, St. Luke’s awarded more than $650,000 in grants to 69 organizations across the Treasure Valley, West Treasure Valley, Elmore County, Valley County, Adams County, and the Wood River regions.
Insight Matters Inc. is honored to partner with St. Luke’s in creating a healthier, safer, and more hopeful future for Payette County youth.
